FAQ's

Do I need to own a guitar before starting?

Yes.  If you don’t have a guitar, you won’t be able to practice.  If you aren’t able to practice, you will not improve.  Therefore, there will be no point in enrolling in lessons.

What age can students start?

The youngest kids I teach are 5-years-old, and we start with ukulele.  The tuning is almost identical to the guitar, there are less strings, and it is easier to play.  Once a kid is 7 or 8, then we can get started with guitar lessons.

Do you teach adults?

Absolutely.  I have taught many adults with moderate to no guitar experience.

Do you teach electric guitar?

It is my favorite instrument to teach!

Do you teach music reading?

Yes.  There are a variety of notation styles, and I will teach you the notation that is most common in the genre of music you want to learn.

Can I learn songs I like?

Of course.  These are the only songs you will be learning!

Do you teach classical guitar?

Yes.  I have 3 degrees in Classical Guitar Performance, so I will teach you the most valuable lessons I’ve learned.

How much should I practice?

It depends on your goals.
Beginners:  15-30 minutes a day 3-5 times a week.
Intermediates:  20-60 minutes a day 5-6 times a week.  Some students at this stage may want to practice 1-3 hours each session.
Advanced:  4-6 hours a day 6 days a week.  A mentor of mine once said, “If you practice the guitar 5 hours a day 6 days a week, you will master the guitar in 10 years.”

Do you offer trial lessons?

The first lesson is always free.

What happens if I miss a lesson?

As per policy, if you miss a lesson it is lost.

How often are lessons?

Lessons are at the same time/day once a week.
